What strikes you the most in making this comparison? The reason I ask is that he does identify with KC...alot. He has All Apologies running as the main song on his personal website.
Not sure but I think it was put on as an homage to his ex.

He's doing much better though. Went off his meds (anti-depressants) completely so he had to get through that. And the situation with his ex is gradually receding into the past. Time takes care of a lot.

Thanks for your interest. Are you a musician as well or...?

The way you notated it is a complete nonsense...
In the tarzan call there are quarter tones that you didn't even notice, or that you didn't transcribe.
It is possible to write quarter tones with modern western notation but he problem of notation in our system is that we don't have signs to transcribe the changes of voice technic (simply because we don't use those technics).

So sorry, but for a "transcription teacher" (whahahahah) your childish analyse was few hours that you lost in vain...

Kind regards,
Malik

P.S : Sorry for my poor english

Some brazilian authors believed that our music (samba, for instance) was our "authentic" expression and bossa nova could not be considerated as a true brazilian music, due to its melting with jazz and some Debussy.

but, new authors, as Marcos Napolitano and Hermano Viana (overmundo.com.br) think that even samba was born from other traditions. so, there's no "authentic" or "pure" brazilian samba. The act of melting styles and traditions was always in the mind of our composers.

The composers and singers of today, experimenting new sounds are just joining to the samba-canção times (mixtures with bolero and fox-trot), to the Tropicalia movement (with Caetano, Tom Zé and Gilberto Gil making bridges between pop and samba, guitar and pandeiro, Carmen Miranda and Beatles), in few words, to brazilian fine tradition of melting sounds and cultures (even not pleasing everyone and sometimes so misunderstood).

Hello, I am a middle-aged music "afficiondo" who seeks to appreciate all musical genres. I am involved in a situation that has some interesting
segueways to the disucssion at hand.

I have recently befriended a young man who leads a small alternative grunge band, with some heavy metal influences, (Alice in Chains, Offspring, etc.) Alongside discussions of music, my friend has confided in me regarding an all-consuming, bordering on obsessive, 4-year relationship he has had with a woman his age (24). My friend, who luckily has a wicked humor, is a caring, highly sensitive, compassionate person (though also prone to symbol-and-sign obsession and other indulgent magical thinking, as well as a bit of hypochondria.) The irony of their situation is that his girlfriend is extremely emotionally abusive. (He has described their relationship as a cross between heaven and hell.) Given his musical predilection, which does include components of "cock rock," I find it interesting that he allows her so much mind-numbing control over him even after their recent break-up (which she instigated.) I have come to the conclusion that, in this case at least, while has has mastered the "cock rock" persona, when the lights come up, it seems he oscillates between turning back into a little boy seeking to be taken care of, and a desire to continue to subject himself to a painful relationship that borders on sado-masochistic (emotional sense.)

My friend has recently recorded and mixed a cd of original material that is polished and impressive. In this cd, he bitterly lashes out and admonishes his girlfriend for her numerous transgressions. Listening to the cd it began to dawn on me why so many artists / rock musicians are drawn to and willing to steep themselves in dysfunctional relationships: after all, without the drama and victimization, the extreme highs and lows, there would be so much less to sing about, and with so much less of the necessary negative emotion in keeping with 90s grunge and metal. I speculate that his obsessive attachment to this painful relationship and its tensions has been necessitated, in part, to maintain the momentum needed for creating music within this particular brand of rock at least. With this symbiotic negative interplay and feeding off, some great songs were produced.

(My friend has been adrift since the break-up, and often appears on my doorstep in the wee hours to cry on my shoulder.)

As he is very talented, my main role has been to encourage him in his music, which I continue to do. He feels his audience is too narrow, and is seeking to enlarge it. With his breakup, I feel the opportunity is ripe for him to cultivate new voice(s) if he can shake his obsession; in addition his talents are multi-dimensional enough for him to diversify the way Bon Jovi did. However, as he is very tied in with the "badass" persona, and moves in local so-called "badass" circles, I think the difficulty might lay how he thinks his forays would be perceived by his fellow "cock rock" musicians.

I've thrown out a lot here, and would be interested in any timely comments about
anything I've written/speculatively "concluded."
I'm sure there are others out there who have
more of a pulse on the "cock rock" scene than me, or perhaps could shed some light, through their own experiences/observations, on what little armchair pyschiatry I have been able to inject into his particular situation.

Thanks for reading! And I look forward to a comment or two...

Possibly mad, for sure; but no, not their marketing director. Funny that you hated it so much--I take this as evidence that the piece is as compelling as I think it is. That is, our reactions (mine that it is beautiful and a thing I want to listen to over and over, and yours that it is SHITE in all caps) are flip sides of the same coin. If it were just lame you and I wouldn't care.

I do disagree, though, about it being shit.
