People Listen to It is a blog about music, scholarship, and the world, written by students and faculty at the University of Illinois. We are musicologists, composers, professional and amateur performers, and all of us learn and teach for a living.
People Listen to It is a space for little essays on big ideas and serious consideration of the trivial and mundane. The articles here are our attempt to move beyond the small context of academic conversations and join the world outside the ivory tower.
Each of us has a particular area of interest and background, though you may notice a slant towards writing about Rock and pop culture because People Listen to It has its origins in a seminar on popular music.
